Haoyue Sun, a 15-year-old from Beijing, China, grew up in an artistic family that inspired his love for classical music. He began learning piano at the age of 7 with pianist Ren Yan and has worked hard to balance his studies with his passion for music ever since.
Over the years, Haoyue Sun has achieved remarkable milestones in music. At 12, he held his first solo concert and performed several times with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. By the time he was 13, he had earned the LTCL Piano Level 6 Diploma and the ABRSM Level 6 Diploma in Music Performance. In 2024, he started studying conducting with conductor Li Jingzhan, adding a new dimension to his music career.
To further improve, Haoyue Sun has participated in global competitions and performances. So far, he has won over 100 awards, including the 3rd Prize at the 2021 France Music Competition, the 1st Prize at the 31st Young Musician International Competition ‘Città di Barletta’ in Italy, the 1st Prize at the 2022 International Competition “Music in the Vineyards” in Serbia, the 3rd Prize at the 2022 Young Verona Piano Competition in Italy, and the 1st Prize at the 2022 Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition in Spain. These achievements not only show his talent but also reflect his dedication and perseverance.
At 13, Haoyue Sun embarked on a global piano recital tour, performing at prestigious venues such as Beijing Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York, Les Invalides in Paris, and Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver. His repertoire included works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Chopin, and Xian Xinghai. This tour not only showcased his professional skill but also served as a cultural exchange. His performances were widely celebrated, and related online views have exceeded one million.
One highlight of the tour was his collaboration with l’Orchestre Colonne, one of France’s oldest symphony orchestras, where they designed performances combining classical music with storytelling to attract younger audiences. He became the first young Chinese pianist to hold a solo concert at Les Invalides. At Carnegie Hall, his performance of Xian Xinghai’s Yellow River Piano Concerto was praised as a meaningful cultural connection. In Vancouver, he worked with a large production team to film a music video for Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, blending classical music with modern visual storytelling.
Offstage, Haoyue Sun has dedicated himself to using music to connect people and give back to the community. In Lyon, he collaborated with local young musicians for a music seminar where they performed and shared their thoughts on music. In Vancouver, he hosted a charity concert called “Melody of Love” for a local elderly care home, bringing joy and warmth to the elderly. These experiences have been captured in a 90-minute documentary titled THE SUN BROTHERS, which will be released in 2025. The film focuses on his journey in music and his efforts to promote diversity and cultural exchange.
Haoyue Sun believes that music is not just about technical mastery—it’s about making a positive impact. In 2021, he performed the theme song “If” at the Annual Legal Figures Award Ceremony, honoring inspiring individuals and spreading positive energy. In 2023, he co-founded the SUN Brothers Music Center to support young musicians and promote classical music education. Through the center, he has organized workshops, charity events, and seminars, making music accessible to more people.
