Jenna Z Liang is a 15-year-old pianist from Vancouver, Canada, currently a sophomore atPhillips Academy Andover in the United States. She began playing piano at the age of fourand has since grown into a dedicated and accomplished young musician. With twelveyears of daily practice, she has trained under esteemed teachers, including Ms. FafanXiao, Ms. Cindy Liu, Dr. Sunsung Kong, Dr. Eugene Skovorodnikov, and Mr. David Vandereykin Vancouver. She also studied with Professor Jia Ning Kong at the Royal College of Musicin London during her time at Wycombe Abbey School. Currently, she continues her musicaltraining under Ms. Isabella Li at the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School.
Jenna has earned numerous awards in both Canadian and international competitions. Atjust six years old, she won first place in the Crescendo International Competition, earningan invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. Other career highlights include third place in theCanadian Music Competition National Final (2017), a Distinction prize at the 26thInternational Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth (2018), theCanadian Young Artists Standards of Excellence Award (2018), third prize at the USAMusical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival (2019), and second prize in the NorthAmerica Regional Final Round of the Pacific Rim International Music Festival (2021). Shegave her debut solo piano recital in Vancouver in 2021 and, the following year, earned herAssociate Diploma (ARCT) with First Class Honors with Distinction. Most recently, in 2024,she won first place at both the Crescendo International Music Competition and the SSPSea to Sky International Piano Festival, received the Excellence Award at the URI PianoExtravaganza Concerts & Competition, and secured third prize at the Enkor InternationalMusic Competition.
Beyond competitions, Jenna has performed with professional ensembles, including theRimski-Korsakov String Quartet and Italy’s Orchestra Città di Grosseto. She hasparticipated in prestigious international music festivals, such as the Tchaikovsky MoscowConservatory summer program, the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, andthe USA Musical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival in Philadelphia.
Passionate about sharing music, Jenna teaches piano through Andover Lawrence Stringsand regularly performs for residents at Windsor Place of Wilmington Assisted Living. In2023, she co-founded Melody Lab, a nonprofit organization that has raised over $11,000for children’s healthcare and music education initiatives.
Outside of music, Jenna has a deep interest in dance, the Classics and writing. She is anactive news writer for The Phillipian, Phillips Academy Andover’s student newspaper, andenjoys exploring jazz funk and hip-hop dance styles.
